What is the PE and Sports Premium?
MOD Schools - in line with the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - have provided additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This will be allocated to primary school Head teachers and is ring-fenced funding and can therefore only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.
At Episkopi Primary School we believe that PE and sports remains a priority and plays an important role in promoting social inclusion, healthy lifestyle and self-confidence. Our aim is to maintain the quality of sports provision at our school and to increase opportunities to improve pupils’ health and wellbeing. We value an innovative and varied PE curriculum that will have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all the children.
How will the sports premium funding be used?
The sports initiative has enabled the school to fund a specialist PE LSA to support teachers in PE lessons and to enhance and deliver outstanding PE provision across the school. In addition, PE resources, apparatus and equipment will be updated and replaced.
What will the impact be of the sports funding?
At Episkopi School our objective is to improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional learning in PE for generalists, so that all primary pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and have a broader exposure to a range of sports. Furthermore, we aim to increase the participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity of all the pupils and to maintain the high values and quality of PE and sports across the school, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement.
